Spring Blossoms and Enhancement Projects

Just some pictures of the blossoms going on at the grounds right now, and some enhancement projects we are focusing on doing right now.

Rhododendron x 'P.J.M.'  one of the first to bloom every spring

Daffodils keep on multiplying over the years

New daffodils we added along north fence sure help cheer up a wet spring!

Akebono Cherries are blooming!
Tulips are about to pop!

Before and After, Rose Bed Enhancement

Fall 2017, Roses getting too big for the area, need a deep pruning cut during winter 2018

Before, Heavy Pruning cutback March 20, 2018

After, Weed killer, fertilizer, and new bark put down, March 26, 2018

Rejuvenation time for the lawn is best done in spring, we are also adding sand to a lot of wet and soggy spots

Below is some research done by Richard Nelson utilizing bio solids as turf fertilizer.  It does have a strong smell, so we are learning how to best incorporate the use of this free resource from the city utility company.  As the pictures show, it really does help green up the grass really quick. The nitrogen in the fertilizer is readily available much faster than chemical fertilizers bonded in a polymer coating.

Almost Springtime

We are getting glimpses of spring as it turns the corner here in March.  We have had sunny days with frosty cold mornings and the never-ending rain streaks this spring.  The daffodils blooming and tulips poking up through the ground have given us hope though so bring on spring!  This new strip we planted below full of 1500 daffodils and crocus is looking really nice.  Thanks to the Eagle Project of Hunter Hicks that completed that!  It is looking really nice.

In February, we attended the annual flower and garden show and found some great ideas that we want to bring back to the grounds.  I liked this display with the outdoor chess set (although that might have to be an idea for my house, not the temple...haha)  The stone bench and stairs are really nice and the rocks add a nice touch.  I thought it was an amazing show and got me excited for spring.

So the Google Car drove by through the temple last summer in July while we were working and caught a glimpse Richard, Dan and the Missionaries working. I was on a trip in Utah...
